About This Collection

Unique Akoya Pearl Collection

A collection using Japanese baroque Akoya pearls that would ordinarily never have seen the light of day. People and pearls alike, we are not meant to fit into a single mold.

Let go of appearances and hold to your own color and form. Beauty need not be bound by any one rule.

Unique Akoya Pearl Collection
The Inspiration

Everyone is different, and everyone is good.

Once, I wanted to be the same as everyone else. My pencil case, my keychain, my clothes.

As the years passed, little by little, I grew better at loving myself. The small ways I differed from others, I came to see, were a glittering treasure.

The pressure to conform. Just as I had finally come to know my own charm, I suddenly felt the air telling me to be like everyone else. Relax for a moment and I might dissolve into the current of society, so I lived bracing myself, standing on my own two feet.

Bleaching, processing. The king of pearls, the Akoya, has long been loved when perfectly round and pure white. Its soft hues and capricious shapes, the individuality grown within the sea, went unnoticed. The character of each pearl was bleached white or shaped perfectly round, and pared away.

At ANNA DIAMOND we take Akoya pearls born in Japan and set them into jewelry with their individuality intact. So every piece is one of a kind in all the world.

People and pearls, everyone is different, and everyone is good. Because you are already beautiful, just as you are.

ANNA DIAMOND Pearls

Our pearl pieces are made in workshops in Japan, in Yamanashi and Tokyo, one at a time, by skilled artisans. A swell, a narrowing, the shape of a drop. No two are ever harvested alike, so every piece is one of one.

Uwajima, Ehime

Uwajima, in Ehime prefecture, is a stretch of quiet inlets along a ria coastline, and one of Japan's foremost sources of Akoya pearls. Cold winter water tightens the nacre and gives these pearls their particular lustre.

Caring for your pearls

Pearls are delicate. Put them on last, and take them off first. Keep them away from cosmetics and perfume, and wipe them gently with a soft cloth after wearing. We offer free cleaning for life at our Daikanyama gallery.

At ANNA DIAMOND Gallery in Daikanyama, Tokyo, you are welcome to try on and purchase pieces without an appointment.
