Man-made, synthetic, lab-grown: the same stone
"What is the difference between a man-made diamond and a lab-grown one?" The answer may surprise you: there is none. The three names all point to the same stone.
Why Three Names
Japan's official term has long been "synthetic diamond"; everyday speech says "man-made"; and "lab-grown" is becoming the world standard. The names changed with the times. The stone did not.
The Misunderstanding in "Man-Made"
"Man-made" evokes imitation. Yet a man-made diamond is a crystal of carbon, identical to natural in hardness, brilliance and chemistry, distinguishable only by specialist instruments. We see in this stone the opposite of imitation: a crystallisation of human wisdom.
Simulants Are a Different Substance
Cubic zirconia and moissanite have their own charm, but they are not diamond. The word "man-made diamond" often mixes them together, and that is where the confusion begins.
What to Verify, Beyond the Name
Whatever the name, verify colour, clarity, cut, and the certificate. Our standard: F colour or above, VS clarity or above, Excellent cut.
